An international youth tournament will be staged in Nadi on December 4-10.

The 2016 Ultimate Cup tournament brings together age group teams from Fiji, Australia and the Solomon Islands.

Australia will be represented by South Australia and an academy side from New South Wales.

Fiji Football Association’s Under-17 coach Shalen Lal said that the final Fijian U17 team would play against the visiting Australian teams before jetting off to Tahiti to participate at the OFC Championship.

Meanwhile, the Suva Junior Football Club team train  at the University of the South Pacific grounds preparing for the Ultimate Cup on Saturday.

Dr Olivier Jutel, a lecturer at USP who is also the president of Suva Junior FC said they have been invited by Fiji Football to participate in the 2016 Ultimate Cup tournament.

“It’s really a great chance not just to compete against the top Fijian sides like Nadi, Ba, Lautoka but to see how we measured up against Australian teams,” he said.

Jutel said the team had been training since February and the clubs have grown as they now have over 70 players taking part.

“Right now I have more U15 and U16 players to choose from. We have lots of competition in the squad but there is a good spirit among the players,” he said.

Jutel said playing in the 2016 Ultimate Cup would be a huge learning experience for their youth players.

Suva Junior FC proved their worth with a narrow 3-2 over Suva U14 side.
