Norman Yee’s Words With Purpose

Seventy-eight-year-old Norman Yee walked away as our Letter of the Week writer for his Letter to the Editor titled ‘Hospital Stay’.

The retired Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) chief executive officer loves to pen his thoughts.

In his letter he highlighted the dedication of medical professionals in our hospitals, mainly, in the Western Division.

This follows recent negative comments from the public about the services provided by these professions.

Mr Yee highlighted the professionalism and customer focus and services shown by health officers after being admitted to the hospital recently.

“I think my contribution will help people, and also to show appreciation to those working in the public services,” he said.

“My sincere thanks and gratitude to the doctors and nurses of both hospitals for the interest and concern for my health.

“The nurses and other staff were cheerful helpers,” he said.

He said, while there may had been criticism on health facilities, his experience after being admitted was different altogether.

“The doctors did a thorough job in investigating the problem and were willing to discuss with me the issues and actions to be taken,” he added.

He has written many letters of interests concerning the community.

Mr Yee was born in Tamavua, Suva.

After studying in Australia, he started work as a technician at the then New Zealand Civil Aviation run Nadi International Airport in 1966.

He retired in 2007 as chief executive of the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji.

Mr Yee is the author of Catching the Wind, the story of his life and the development of Nadi International Airport from the 1960s to the 2000s.
