The Land Transport Authority of Fiji will host a refresher workshop for the driving instructors in the Western Division this Saturday.

President of the Fiji Driving School Association in the Western Division, Rohitesh Sharma, said the workshop would provide a platform for driving instructors to interact with LTA officials and allow open discussions from both sides.

“The last time we had a refresher meeting was in 2004 in the Western Division and therefore this time we have called on the association members and non-members to join us for the workshop as this will be helpful,” Mr Sharma said.

Mr Sharma said one of the topics to be discussed in the workshop would be the LTA’s communication with the driving instructors.

“We have seen that many a times new laws came into place without prior notification to us so we just want to have them place a system so that proper communication is done especially in terms of any change in the laws,” he said.

He said as stakeholders, the driving instructors and the LTA must improve their communication.

“There will be instructors who have grown old in the business and there will be new ones so this is the chance for LTA to also alert them and clarify on the requirements, eligibility, processes and other laws that need to be adhered to by the instructors,” Mr Sharma said.

The meeting will be held at the Fiji National University Namaka campus.
