National Fire Authority’s Quick Response Contains Wild Fire

Quick response by the National Fire Authority yesterday contained a wild fire that started near McDonald’s restaurant in Nadi.
Fiji Sun was present at the scene when firefighters battled the inferno near some properties that were threatened by the fire.
Valerie Watson, whose house was nearby, kept her fingers crossed when the incident happened.
“I know my house is old but I just don’t want to lose it,” Ms Watson said.
“To make things worse the wind was strong.
“Someone always does this purpose-fully at this time of the year and I just don’t know why.”
She thanked the NFA officers and few people who sell green coconuts by the roadside for their assistance.
The NFA confirmed that the incident occurred after midday. A truckload of officers from the Nadi Fire Station rushed to the scene.
NFA is investigating how the wild fire started.
It is advising the public to be careful with the possibility of accidentally starting a fire where properties are situated and can cause a high risk for a lot of people in their neighbourhoods.
