The National China Under-18 Women’s basketball team thrashed the BLK Fiji Women’s Selection side 83-49 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, last night.

Despite losing by a big margin, Basketball Fiji development officer Laisenia Puamau said they are using the match as a build-up to their long term goals.

“This has been nothing more than a positive experience for us, the vision for us is the 2019 World Cup qualifiers which begins in December next year,” Puamau said.

“That is something we are working towards after qualifying from the Pacific Games. We are not setting short-term goals we are looking ahead and building-up for upcoming competitions.

“We are definitely looking forward to the next game’s experience against this world class team and we are quite confident that we will get better as the day goes on.”

Puamau said team have taken back a lot of positives from the game.

“They have the height advantage over us but I am sure the girls will take back what they have learnt tonight and come back stronger.” When approached the Chinese basketball officials declined to comment.
