The Fiji Surfing Association is inviting interested girls to come forward and participate at the ‘Girls Go Surfing Day’ at Natadola this weekend.

National surfing head coach Ian Portingale told SUNsports yesterday that so far there has been a good response from the public.

He added the day is targeted to get more girls involved with the sport.

“We have at this stage about 40 women turning up from as young as six and as old as 40 just to have fun,” he said.

“The day is aimed to learn how to surf, get some surfing awareness, listen about some marine environment and do a little bit of beach cleaning-up but it’s generally to have fun with other girls.”

Portingale said the target was to attract 50 girls for the event with transport from Suva to Nadi being arranged.

“It is to give them something different that they could get active in. It is quite a cheap sport once you have a surf board there is no other costs and it’s quite affordable,” he said.
