Team Jigsaw were crowned the new winners of the Port Opua Hobie Cat Championship at Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina yesterday. The Australian team of Phil Atinkson and Jim Gramhe were too strong for Netherland’s Tranquilo (Lil Huyg and Bratt Bart Veldink) who came in second.

“This is our first regatta here and we loved to be part of the event but we have been coming to Fiji since 1975,” Atinkson said.

“The event has been very well-organised and they need a compliment for the effort.”

The third spot went to Trangki Kiapa (Lionel Bass and Irene Bass) of Australia.

It was the final event of the Fiji Regatta Week hosted in the Malolo waters.

Musket Cove Yacht Club supervisor Patrick Tuiqereqere said they were overwhelmed with the week-long event.

“We had 22 teams competiting since Sunday, basically 44 pairs which is made-up of 88 individuals for the event,” he said.

“It was an interesting year of competition with a total of 101 yachts from monohull to multihull with some flashy ones which has been a record this year. This is one way to say thank you to the sailors that come and enjoy their stay in Fiji.”

He also thanked all corporate sponsors for the event as without them it could not have been any better.
