Acting PM Joins In Celebration

The Attorney-General and acting Prime Minister Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has acknowledged China’s unwavering and consistent friendship with Fiji for the past 41 years.
“During turbulent periods in our history, China’s friendship was unwavering and the support that was provided to Fiji by China helped us lay the foundation for the new Fiji that exists today,” he said.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum made these remarks at the Chinese Embassy in Suva last night during the celebrations of the 67th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
He said Fiji had put those lost years in the past and would not forget China’s role in helping Fiji persevere through, what have been, difficult times.
“Today, on the back of seven straight years of economic growth, it is clear that China’s faith in Fiji was well-placed.
“So tonight, let us celebrate this milestone in China’s history and the strong, lasting alliance that exists between our nations,” he said.
He congratulated the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its commitment in ratifying the Paris Agreement.
“As you know, the Paris Agreement is an issue that is dear to our hearts, and it represents the recognition of all states that industrialised countries commit to limiting their levels of carbon emissions.
“So thank you for your commitment in helping combat the ravages of climate change by supporting this agreement,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
Chinese Ambassdor to Fiji Zhang Ping said that China was committed to strengthening bilateral relations with us.
