Mohammed Akbar thrives on challenges. That’s what kept him going over the past 15 years as Fiji Sun’s head printer.

He started as a printer and has worked his way through the ranks.

The work which comes with the Fiji Sun’s investment in a new printing press is a boost not only for Mr Akbar, but for other printers as well.

It follows the growth of the Fiji Sun from printing as few as 32 pages on a Saturday to often printing more than 132.

“With the old machine, we used to have less runs. But now, we have more runs and we have to be on top of our game here.”

As part of the company’s continuing commitment to upgrade production equipment and software, the Fiji Sun production team today works with cutting edge technology.

With a demanding work schedule, (which can run into the early hours of the morning) Mr Akbar is thankful for the support from home – from his wife and daughter, Faima.

This was published as part of the Fiji Sun  17th Anniversary Lift-out.
