Opposition are resorting to cheap politics and are clutching at straws, says acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He was responding to comments made by Opposition Member of Parliament Aseri Radrodro who said the deportation of two MWH staff was through high handed tactics.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said it was rich of Opposition to make such comments.

“To be frank, I have not read his statement but it is quite rich of the Opposition to make such comments because only a few months ago and last year they were complaining about the consultants that the FRA was paying them too much fees,” he said.

“Here is a situation where the FRA is questioning the amounts being invoiced to them and they are doing the right thing by ensuring they have value of the dollar. So, without knowing facts, as the Opposition is known to do, they seem to clutch at straws.

“The fact of the matter is that here is a Fijian statutory body that is standing up to a relatively large company, to say please justify your claims and we will pay. It is not a wrong message. Companies that have credibility, those who have adherence to international standards would come to Fiji.

“There are many companies coming to Fiji and I hope in their quest to gain some kind of cheap political mileage, they do not try and undermine the value for money the taxpayers need to get.”
