Atelini Kanaivalu is the new Vodafone Fiji Ladies Darts Singles champion after beating Mereoni Fong 4-1 in the final at the Defence Club, Suva yesterday.

Kanaivalu cruised past the quarterfinals beating Nyla Alfred 3-2 before edging out Mereoni Naikanitoba 3-1 in the semi-final.

Last year’s winner Ana Ruci beat Litia Heritage 3-0 in the quarterfinals but bowed out 3-2 in the semis to Fong.

Tournament co-ordinator Mahendra Singh said the competition was a successful one and they were happy with the turnout

Singh said 14 players took part in the tournament which had been very tough.

“We were happy with the number of players that showed up for this competition. There are a total of 20 ladies who play darts and to have 14 out of those 20 showing up is a really good sign for us.

“But we also understand as to why not a lot of them show up, it is a Saturday and we know most of these ladies have other priorities but we are happy with the turnout today.

“The competition has been good but really tough and we are hoping to have more coming up. The numbers will grow as well as the competitiveness.”

The next scheduled event for Fiji Darts is the Vodafone Triples which will be held on October 2 at the Suva Defence Club.
