The lead up to yesterday’s annual Girls Go Surfing Day was very hectic with enquiries and planning, which resulted in around 60 females attending the day. Natadola provided some small clean waves to ensure the girls had a safe experience.

The Fiji Surfing Association would like to extend a special thanks to our sponsors of the day.

Vatuvara jumped onboard to assist in the organisation and to cover the cost of the transport to enable even more girls’ access to the fun day. Tavuvara gave an informative talk on the marine environment so all in attendance had a better understanding of the impact we have on the ocean.

Blue Planet Stand Up Paddle provided a delicious light lunch for the whole group. Extremely nice and much appreciated. They also did a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) exhibition to demonstrate a different approach to being in the ocean.

The girls received excellent coaching from the FSA staff of coaches who distributed information about their surf schools along with contacts for future lessons. If anyone, male or female requires surf coaching please contact FSA on 8307173 for details and an accredited surf coach near you.

WHAT’S NEXT

The next FSA development event will be the Rip Curl Micro Grommet Series for Under-14, U12 and U10 boys and girls. We’re excited to be able to offer this series, thanks to the generous sponsorship by Rip Curl.

Using a different format the series is broken into two events, the first at Natadola on October 22 and the second at swimming pools on November 5. Contestants will have their wave scores added and after the second event the winners will be announced.

BSP are on board giving away a $10 savings account, McDonald’s will give out meal vouchers and Fiji Surf Company will provide prizes and a boat to access swimming pools and Vatuvara are donating a new surfboard to one lucky girl. It will be an awesome series which is designed to encourage more kids into the sport of surfing. Entry forms will be sent out to the clubs very soon so keep your eyes out for the info.
