Western Teams Make Mark

Marist Hockey executive Paul Fraser is impressed with the teams from the Western division who put on a stunning performance during day two of the Geotech Drilling Eastgate Memorial Hockey tournament.
Lautoka’s Blue Stars caused the biggest upset of the tournament beating the New Zealand Barbarians 3-1 while Rebels from Nadi, held top seed Ventures 1-1.
“The teams from the west impressed everyone but it is a shame they have not got the proper facilities back home,” Fraser said.
“With Blue Stars beating the Barbarians and Ventures securing a draw with Rebels it shows how far teams from the west have progressed.
“It is nice to see they have done a lot of preparations.
“I think the future of hockey is looking bright for us. We only hope they continue to grow after the Marist tournament.
“There are three teams looking good to take out the men’s grade . They are Ventures, Marist Whites and Stingers.
“But as for the women, it is likely to be a Marist and Ventures final again.
“Everyone is enjoying the tournament; we are getting great feedback and praises for what we have done so we cannot be any happier with what has happened so far.”
