Understanding basic financials helps you in every reporting round.

This was the comment made by, a well known Australian Writer, Journalist and Researcher, Mark Skulley, while speaking to Journalists from Fiji.

This was a part of ANZ and Fijian Media Association Partnership Capacity Building workshop at ANZ House in Suva yesterday.

He spoke about reading financial statements and how it could be interpreted.

Mr Skulley also highlighted the need for accurate reporting when it came to business reporting.

This was an area, he said, which determined a lot about different business houses and the country’s Government expenditure and earnings.

Secretary of Fijian Media Association, Stanley Simpson, said such workshops were good for journalists.

“This workshop was a very informative one and it will definitely benefit the reporters when it comes to business reporting,” Mr Simpson said.

He added the association would be organising similar workshops in future.

“This is what the association is working towards and more of this would be coming up this year.

“We will be having workshops in other sectors as well and not only business and the next one will be after four months.”

He urged reporters to make the most of the workshops, adding an extra point by being part of the training.

Journalists from different media organisations, including three from the Fiji Sun were part of this workshop.
