After the success of its first horse racing event, the Bua Horse Racing Association is putting together another competition, which is set for October 8.

Association treasurer, Mohammed Janif said yesterday the one- day event would see eight furlong races take place at the Lekutu Race Course in Korokadi, Bua.

“After eight years we had our first horse race last month where 20 horses participated in a one-mile event,” he said.

The one mile-race was won by Millie, rode by its owner Mohammed Sheik of Vakale settlement.

“The reason the association could not hold any competition for the past eight years is because of some land lease issue. This has been resolved and with the help of our members the racing course has been prepared.”

Janif said the revival event they had last month was a success.

“There was a big support from nearby communities and villages, especially from the horse riders. For the race in October the winner will walk away with $200 and a trophy.”

He added the entry fees are adults-$3, secondary school students- $2 and $1 for primary school students. The programme starts at 10am.
