The 2016 Vodafone Rakiraki Carnival contestants will use the platform during the weeklong festivities to advocate on the theme: “Building Resilience to Natural Disasters”.

The six contestants will also be vying for the Miss Vodafone Rakiraki Queen Crown and represent the northern township of Viti Levu in the Miss Fiji Pageant at the end of the year.

Vodafone Fiji manager tourism Iliesa Volau said Vodafone was proud to have engaged with Vodafone Fiji ATH Foundation to disseminate essential support for Fijians across the country in time of need.

Mr Volau, who officiated during the opening of the event, said the mobile service provider was delighted to once again partner with the Rakiraki Town Council in staging the festival to showcase the Fijian spirit of togetherness.

“We are delighted to put in our share towards the people of the vanua and with the committee are able to support and benefit the Rakiraki populous,” said Mr Volau.

“The town caters for a large community in the province of Ra and we are confident that the four day carnival will generate much needed funds for the people in need. This very essence has kept us all going during the tough times we experienced in the wrath of Cyclone Winston.”

Vodafone brought the carnival back to life last year in paving the way for the communities of Ra in partnership with business houses, food vendors, entertainers, government departments, NGO’s and contestants to enjoy.
