Movement restrictions imposed for larger aircraft at the Nausori International Airport on Sunday was lifted yesterday by Airports Fiji Limited. This meant Fiji Airways and Fiji Link ATR aircraft operations to/from Suva could resume.

Fiji Airways, however, emphasised many flights will face delays as the airline works to clear a backlog of affected customers from Sunday.

It said road transfers for customers connecting on international flights will continued.

“Some international flights from Nadi will also face delays today, to cater for those passengers connecting from Suva,” the statement said.

The national airline had said a decision on whether Fiji Airways will operate the B737 aircraft from Nausori Airport today would be confirmed later yesterday. However, no confirmation was received yesterday when this issue went to print.

Background

Airports Fiji had carried out runway crack sealing works at night times at Nausori Airport over the past two weeks.

A liquefied sealant has to be poured over the cracks to seal them. However, the sealant applied on Saturday night could not dry within 30 minutes specified.

Therefore the runway had to be closed on Sunday to allow the contractors from Australia and New Zealand to find temporary and longer term solutions.
