Bainivualiku Celebrates Win

The Bainivualiku rugby team celebrated winning the Bougainville Tanoa after 23 years in Labasa yesterday.
The 27 players marched into Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ (RFMF) Sukanaivalu Barracks in Labasa.
While surprising many with their military drills, the team handed the Bougainville Tanoa to Major Penasio Maumau who expressed his gratitude to his men.
“I’ve been with them since 2000 and it had always been my dream to see Bainivualiku win Bougainville Tanoa before I retire this year,” Major Maumau said.
“This is the best retirement gift and a good way to send me off.”
Bainivualiku beat Third Battalion Infantry Regiment (3FIR) 18-7 at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks grounds in Nabua last Wednesday.
Bainivualiku manager Corporal Emilio Toganivalu said it was the proudest moment for them.
“Since 1993 the Sukanaivalu Barracks has been trying to win and this is the first time in history we have won the Bougainville Tanoa,” Corporal Toganivalu said.
“We have the talented players who also played for the Macuata provincial team.
“We are so happy and we want to share our joy over a celebration this Friday with families and friends.”
