A new vessel for the Goundar Shipping Service will arrive into the country in November.

The owner and manager Goundar Shipping Services George Goundar said the new vessel named “Car Ferry” would service the route from Natuvu to Lovonivonu in Taveuni.

Currently the route is serviced small outboard motor boats.

Mr Goundar confirmed that on the 21st of next month, eight of his crews will be flying to South Korea to bring the new vessel.

“The vessel will service the new route making two trips a day in December, one in the morning and one in the afternoon,” he said.

This service he said would be a boost for the people of Taveuni and Vanua Levu.

“It will be easy for people of Labasa to do business in Taveuni and go back in the same day,” he said.

Goundar said he would negotiate with the bus company in the North for this trip.

He said as new weekly trip to Rabi Island was now on the pipeline.

Mr Goundar said he had sent a letter to Government if they could also include the upgrading of the jetties in Natuvu and Lovonivonu in the next year’s budget.

This route according to Mr Goundar is open to any shipping company.

Mr Goundar said he had shipping plans for the Northern Division and it would surprise the people.

He said more vessels would arrive and that would also mean more employment for the people.
