The resealing work on Buca Bay Road in Vanua Levu by Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) “means a better and safer skid resistant surface during wet weather conditions,” for motorists, says FHH North Contract Manager, Ryan Couchman.

Contracted by Fiji Roads Authority to maintain the sealed and unsealed road networks in the North, FHH will be resealing “approximately 15 kilometres” of the Buca Bay Road, Mr Couchman said.

More than 3,000 people will benefit from this major road rehabilitation work of which five kilometres has already been completed, he added.

He is urging motorists using Buca Bay Road to follow speed limits and safety signs leading to and through the location as there are loose chips and uneven surfaces.

He said that although the road was sealed a number of years ago, “we are resealing it to provide additional waterproofing to the road surface.”

A 10-man crew equipped with heavy machinery is currently on site and work is expected to be complete by late October, Mr Couchman added.

Buca Bay Road runs from Buca Bay to Savusavu Airport. Among the road users that commonly travel through this stretch are farmers from Taveuni, Rabi and Kioa, who take their produce to the Savusavu Market.
