The daughter of a fallen Police officer, Nunia Kurualeba, wants to follow the father’s footsteps and become a Police officer.

The Year 8 student of St Joan of Arc Primary School in Sigatoka was overcome with emotion as she remembered her father, Police Constable Viliame Kurualeba, who died on January 5 this year.

With tears streaming, Nunia was hugged and comforted by female Police officers during the Police Remembrance Day ceremony at the Lautoka Police Station.

“I really miss him,” the 14-year-old said. “He died after a sickness.”

Nunia’s mother, Merelini, was overseas and being the eldest of four girls, she was asked to represent the family.

Nunia, without hesitation, said she wants to be a Police officer one day and take over from where her father left off.

Chief guest, Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau, said the demand and expectations put on Police officers daily could not be put into words.

While the ceremony yesterday remembered the fallen officers, Mr Tagicakibau said it should also be befitting to celebrate their lives and their contribution.
