Pastor In Court For Alleged Verbal Abuse

A pastor appeared in the Navua Magistrates Court yesterday for allegedly verbally abusing Hindu devotees during a prayer festival.
Solomone Vakaruru, 56, is charged with a count each of common nuisance, dangerous driving and failure to report after the accident.
It is alleged that on September 15, Vakaruru annoyed participants during the Ganesh Utsav Festival in Navua Town.
The case was called before Magistrate Senileba Levaci.
Vakaruru was granted bail in the sum of $1000 with strict conditions.
Police prosecutor Constable Riteshni Lata objected to bail on the grounds that the matter was an insult of the religion.
Vakaruru was represented by a private lawyer and he presented two sureties.
His bail conditions are that he reports to the Navua Police Station every fortnight, a curfew from 6pm to 6am and he is not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
