Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School in Macuata Province has begun constructing staff quarters which was unfortunately destroyed in the fire in 2014.

The official ground breaking ceremony was done by the acting Senior Education Officer for Macuata and Bua Rajesh Chand.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School Principal Mashud Ali and manager Hamid Hussein accorded hearty thanks to Ministry of Education for the Fiji Fee Free Education Grant (FFEG) usage and the school management  for their tremendous support  to begin with this project that will cost about $12,000.

“Our school is approximately 53 kilometres away from Labasa Town and many teachers travel daily to school,” Mr Ali said.

“Currently, we have 17 teachers, 111 students from Years Nine to 13 and five teachers’ quarters.”

“When the school began in 2003 we had only four teachers and last year we had 77 students,” Mr Ali said.

“With the Government’s assistance such as transport scheme and seen teachers’ commitment in producing better results, the student roll has increased this year.

Students are from eight villages and three feeder schools such as Lutukina District School, Batirilagi District School and Valelawa Primary School.”

“As a leader, I see the importance of staff and students’ welfare,” Mr Ali said.

“Hence, we have begun with the construction of staff quarters which will accommodate a family or two teachers and this will be completed by end of next month.”

Mr Ali said the cause of fire was unknown and it happened in October, 2014.

Meanwhile, Mr Chand on behalf of Ministry of Education thanked the school management and motivated teachers and students to continue to perform to their level best.
