Fiji is taking part in a global effort  to reach a deal that regulates carbon emissions in the international aviation industry.

This is being held at the 39th Triennial Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) currently being held in Montreal, Canada from September 27 to October 7.

ICAO has 191 member states and the Fijian Delegation, is being led by Attorney-General and Minister responsible for Civil Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

“Given the projections for significant increases in air travel over the next few decades, it is vital that we put forward a regulatory framework that will limit environmental impacts and that simultaneously accommodates for the economic realities of small island developing states,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

ICAO Council elections will also be held during the Triennial Assembly.
