Letter Of The Week

Aim to change the world with letters
Thirty-two-year-old Joan Geralyne McGoon believes writing in the Letter to the Editor column would one day change this world into a beautiful place.
Ms McGoon was recently awarded the Fiji Sun’s Letter of the week winner titled “Playground for Criminals”.
She has been an avid writer contributing to current affairs issues.
“I like to write and hopefully it will one day change this world into a beautiful place,” Ms McGoon said.
She said it was an eye-opener for her working with an organisation that dealt directly with human trafficking victims.
Ms McGoon was a former bank officer before spending two years in Asia where she worked for a German-funded charity organisation and wrote articles on human trafficking.
The writing on specific issues related to human trafficking sharpened her penmanship and using tact to get her point across.
“You have the freedom to write whatever issue you need to write, but it takes diplomacy to say it , write it and to get your point across, so we should give it to them from a good direction and not to tear anyone down,” Ms McGoon said.
Originally from Levuka in Ovalau, Ms McGoon after travelling is more aware of what is happening around her.
“We also wrote articles mostly for our sponsors and what we experienced and everything. So when I came, writing was what I did most of the time and I wanted to contribute to what’s happening around me,” she said.
She currently works in the Sales and Marketing department of a company based in Nadi.
