A teenager appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday charged with one count each of aggravated robbery, unlawful wounding, resisting arrest and assaulting a Police officer who was executing his duty.
Jemesa Vakacegu, 19, appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza.
On the count for aggravated robbery, it is alleged that on September 18 in Nasinu, an armed Vakacegu allegedly robbed the complainant, Shiu Ram, of $2200 cash.
He also allegedly stole assorted recharge cards valued at $1200, one mobile phone valued at $70 and assorted BH 10 valued at $165. During the alleged robbery, Vakacegu attacked and wounded the complainant with a knife and an iron rod.
On September 27, in Nasinu, it is alleged Vakacegu assaulted a Police officer and resisted arrest. The court was adjourned to October 14 for mention.
After the court case in Nasinu, Vakacegu was then escorted to Lautoka to be questioned for an alleged carjacking incident at Kashmir, Lautoka, last week.
At least eight people were allegedly involved.
One of the suspects, Aselai Waqanivalu, had appeared in the Lautoka Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with one count of aggravated robbery and three counts of theft. Two more suspects were caught in Suva, and one in Sigatoka. This brings to five the number of people Police have caught concerning this case.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Police intelligence made quick work of the arrests.
“The three, caught in Suva and Sigatoka, have already been taken to Lautoka for questioning while the one who appeared in the Nasinu Court will be taken down later,” Ms Naisoro said.
