A villager is lucky to be alive after he fell victim to a hit and run accident on Thursday morning at Namuka-i-Lau Village in Veisari, outside of Suva.

Paul Joseph, 20, and Elijah Tamaiti, 18, who was also injured, were on their way to Delainavesi in Lami at around 3am on Thursday when they were hit at a road hump while crossing the road.

“All I remember is that I woke up in a Police vehicle after I was hit,” said a distraught Mr Joseph at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva yesterday. Mr Joseph, who moved recently to Suva from Rabi Island, lives with relatives at Vesari and is thankful that he is still alive.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a 31-year-old was in Police custody regarding the hit and run incident.
