Former World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight champion Daniel Geale is confident of beating Renold Quinlan for the International Boxing Organisation title on October 16 in Launceston, Tasmania.

Speaking to World of Boxing, Geale says, he has had good preparation and is feeling much stronger in the super middleweight division. He indicated that this week he’ll have World Boxing Organisation (WBO)-rated Rohan Murdoch as a sparring partner.

After Quinlan, Geale says, he has former World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Sakio Bika and current WBA champion Felix Sturm on his radar.

When contacted Quinlan’s trainer Lepani Wilson said they are used to be tagged as an underdog.

“Many here have said that Renold was rushed to the top. We took the gamble because no one wanted to fight him back then. We targeted those above him and we took them out. The kept saying the same thing that Renold was not ready for it but Renold kept eating them up.”

Wilson said this is the biggest fight in Quinlan’s career because a win could get him to the top of world ranking.

He said former world middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and WBO world junior middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez have already expressed their interest on fighting the winner of this fight.

“Renold has been training hard for the past months and should be in tip top shape on the day of the fight. We respect Geale as a former world champion but we are coming to give our best shot as we also want to be up there with the stars,” Wilson added.

Quinlan’s mum hails from Viwa in Bau, Tailevu and was brought up in Nepani during his early childhood days.
