As extensive as the road work was, it had to be completed in one day to allow members of the public to access Natadradave in Dawasamu, Tailevu, which is the area popularly known as the site of the healing natural spring water.

By sunset of September 24, a crew of eight labourers equipped with three excavators, two graders, 13 tip trucks, two three-ton trucks, one water cart and one roller graded, gravelled and widened the road and carpark, said Fulton Hogan Hiways Korovou supervisor, Ulaiasi Bolalailai.

FHH is contracted by Fiji Roads Authority to improve rural roads and associated infrastructure on Viti Levu’s Rural East and Rural West areas.

“The road to Natadradave and even the area around the water pipes had become soggy and slippery as a result of the 1000-plus visitors and over 300 vehicles that travel to the area each day,’’ said Mr Bolalailai.

People in wheelchairs would be able to wheel themselves to the water pipes rather than carried to it, he said.

He said visitors ‘‘will also be able to cross drains safely as we have installed culvert crossings with headwalls.”

Naboro Cocoa is the road leading to Natadradave Village. This road also services the villages of Delakado and Vorovoro and the settlement of Veilolo.

The work that FHH has carried out at Natadradave, he added, “is intended to ease parking constraints and general movement around the area for visitors and members of the Natadradave community.”

According to the Natadradave Facebook page titled Natadradave Testimonies, people from Australia and New Zealand were flocking to the site, which opens Monday to Sunday.
