Swimmers for Canberra Champs

Senior squad to compete in FINA Short Course championship.
Fiji Swimming will next week be short-listing participants to compete at the New South Wales Championship in Canberra.
Swimming president Ben Rova said the team would be categorised into two groups – development elite squad and senior category.
“The development elite squad is for those aged between 13 and 18 and we are looking at the top six males and top six females,” Rova said.
“We already have a programme in place where we will be going to Australia and they will be based at the AIS (Australian Institute of Sports) to train there.”
The senior squad, who are 18 years old, will be competing for places in the FINA Short Course World Championship in Canada in December.
“We have to get our selectors to go through the final names before we release it on October 11,” Rova said.
“So right now we are earmarking number of our local swimmers who have met the criteria, and they will be hopefully be joined by our USA-based swimmers.”
They aim to take four swimmers from Fiji and two or three from the USA.
“The team will depart on the December 5 because they have got an eight-day programme where they will be training in Canberra.”
Meanwhile, the Short Course Grand Prix Three will continue in Suva and Nadi respectively on Saturday. Edited by Naisa Koroi
