One of Asenaca Nakase Vesinawailagi’s flip-flops lay under the back of a bus.

The ground was covered with blood near the back tyres.

Moments before, the three-year-old was crossing the road at the Lautoka Bus station when she was crushed by a bus.

She was with her mother Joana Natekuru, and six-month old brother Lasaro Qereqeretabua.

In the Lautoka Market, her grandmother was lost for words.

She was cradling Lasaro Qereqeretabua, who was sleeping in the comforts of grandmother.

The tragedy happened at about 4pm.

She was in front of her mother, Joana Natekuru, who was carrying Lasaro, according to eye witness Asaeli Kaisuva, when the bus struck them.

“They were half way across the road when the bus came in between two parked buses and hit her.”

It is believed they were crossing to board a bus to go home to Buabua, a rural settlement in Lautoka.

The driver was taken away by Police for questioning.
