Private Asinate Colati, 26, says she can’t wait for the Fiji Day parade on Friday at Albert Park Pavilion and Grounds, in Suva.

Private Colati and eight other women will be making their Fiji Day debut as part of a 60-member Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) band that will perform at the parade.

Private Colati, 26, said she felt proud to be part of the most amazing celebration in Fiji that recognised 46 years of independence.

Private Colati said: “I feel great as a citizen of Fiji to be part of something I have always watched as a kid and have always envied the soldiers participating.

“It is a great honour as a female to be representing my country as a bandswoman playing the B flat cornet.”

Private Colati’s best memory of the Fiji Day celebration as a child was the march performed by the RFMF.

The other eight women are: Private Mere Marama, Private Talevi Qeranatabua, Private Eleni Naleba, Private Emalimi Mariah, Private Lusiana Tagicakibau, Private Alavuieta Rattu, Private Laise Leba and Private Tokasa Susu.

Lieutenant-Colonel Penioni Naliva is leading the RFMF preparation for the Fiji Day March at Albert Park.

He confirmed 400 military personnel would take part in the parade.

Lieutenant-Colonel Naliva said: “Come out with your families and enjoy the Fiji Day celebrations and be happy as we are turning 46-years-old as an independent country.”
