Boat boosts student morale towards studies: Vadranalagi

Some students of Vatulele District School had to walk three miles every morning to get to school.

By the time classes began, they were already sleepy, says the manager of the school, Watisoni Vadranalagi.

This would all change now because the Minister for Education, Mahendra Reddy, made an official handover of a boat worth $15,000 to the school.

Mr Vadranalagi, who received the boat at Sigatoka Andhra Sangam College, in Sigatoka said the boat would cater for the students from two of the four villages on Vatulele, Lomanikaya and Bouwaqa.

He said it would change the morale of the students and they could finally focus on their studies.

The request for a boat was sent to the Ministry of Education last year. It was handed over with an outboard engine and OHS equipment.

Mr Vadranalagi thanked the Ministry for the work they have continuously done to eradicate the burden faced by children and teachers in schools.

Mr Reddy said this year approximately 25 boats have been given out to schools.
