Fulfilling Students Dreams, Imperative: Reddy

Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy has advised the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme (TELS) staff to ensure every student’s dreams are fulfilled.

During the opening of the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board – Staff Professional Development Workshop, Mr Reddy said: “You play a very important role ensuring every child dreams are delivered and fulfilled.

“You are in custody of a pool of money we have set aside to educate our children.”

Mr Reddy said throughout the world education was normally not seen in the priority list of governments’ investment.

He said governments generally invested on areas which provided visible output in immediate terms.

“Governments used to make policies to win elections rather than govern the people,” Mr Reddy said.

He said investments in areas whose returns are seen in the long run are not on the priority list.

That he said resulted in governments struggling to meet development requirements.

“Now throughout the world, based on evidence research, for long term prosperity, stability and growth and contribution to removal of inequality within and across the country, we need to invest into education,” he said.

This Government is committed of delivering a future Fiji where everyone grows,” he said.

The workshop will end tomorrow.
