One of the oldest players in the 2016 Courts Inter District Championship Pita Rabo strongly believes that he still has a few more years of playing competitive football ahead of him.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, the 39-year-old Suva captain says, he does not plan to hang his boots anytime soon.

“I started playing football at a very young age,” the Kuku native from Tailevu said.

“It started back in the village as a kid we would just play. Running around kicking the ball but then I began to take football seriously and it has brought me to where I am today.”

Rabo said over the years people have asked him why he chose to play football.

“For me I see it in a different way. In rugby you start earning when you reach the higher level but as for football you start earning along the way, with your club supporting you so that’s one of the reasons why I love football.”

Rabo said for nine years he was contracted to a club in New Zealand but before that he played for the Fijian Under-23 side.

“Back in those days I used to play with Radike Nawalu and all those top names. Back then there wasn’t any transfer window like today, so we played for pride,” he said.

Rabo added that he is grateful to his wife and children for their understanding and support which has prospered his football career.
