Finance Pacific Suva’s 3-0 win over Nadroga came at a price with two of their key players injured and Jake Dreloa red carded during the Courts Inter-District Championship  (IDC) at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

Defenders Madhavan Goundar and Waisake Navunigasau were badly injured in the second half and had to be escorted of the field.

Meanwhile, Dreloa copped himself a yellow card in the first half and again in the second half for dangerous play which resulted in a red card.

What happened: Suva’s Filipe Baravilala scored the first goal when the ball deflected off the Nadroga goalkeeper, 1-0.

In the 39th minute, Nickel Chand to put the capital side in the 2-0 lead.  Nadroga struggled to maintain ball possession. Suva had numerous attempts at goal but none proved successful.

Halftime: Suva 2-0 Nadroga

Nadroga stepped up their game in the second half as Jitendra Kumar almost scored but Suva goalkeeper Tevita Koroi blocked his shot. Things turned out good for Suva as substitute Jesoni Takala scored the third goal for the capital side to give them a comfortable lead, 3-0.

Big Play: Nadroga could have closed the gap with a goal but Jitendra Kumar did not have the accuracy to find the back of the net.

Star Turn: Jesoni Takala secured Suva’s comfortable win by scoring the third goal.

Comments: Suva coach Gurjit Singh said: “Even though we won I am not happy with the game because we have two key players who are injured and one red carded and that will be a huge setback.

“Dreloa having a red card is a huge loss, that’s why we are always cautious about fielding him because of this exact reason.

“But Goundar  and Navunigasau are our key players and we need to see the extent of their injuries.”

Nadroga declined to comment.
