Media Pays Tribute To Journalist Matau

The Fijian Media Association says the fraternity has lost a true comrade and friend in Robert Matau.
FMA’s general secretary, Stanley Simpson, said Mr Matau had a passion for people and the things he wrote about.
“He was a journalist who cared about the issues and for his colleagues, and remained an encouraging presence right to his demise,” Mr Simpson said.
“He had a ready grin and reassuring smile even in difficult times.
“He was an experienced journalist who served the media for almost three decades and his loss will be strongly felt across the industry.”
According to the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) they were sad to learn the passing of Mr Matau.
PNA chief executive officer, Ludwig Kumoru said in a statement: “We are shocked and dismayed to hear of the passing of Robert Matau, who worked with the PNA up until his last days.
“He will be remembered for his excellent writing and investigative abilities, his camaraderie with fisheries and media colleagues and his sharp wit,” he said.
“On behalf of all those working with the PNA, I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to his wife and children at this sad time.”
