Tavua Dedicate Win To Officials

The Tavua football side scored an upset 2-1 win over Nasinu during the Courts Inter District Championship’s Senior Division competition at Bidesi Park, Suva yesterday. Tavua head coach Nazeem Ali dedicated the win to their officials who worked so hard and also used their own money to get the team to Suva.

Ali said the aim was to improve their standard in order to attract sponsors, which is hard to find.

“We played according to our game plan and that helped us. We had trained for a week due to financial constraints.

Speaking to SUNsports, Nasinu Football president Jiten Reddy said their players did not play according what they had wanted because they were not accustomed to the small ground.

“The ground is too small for us. The senior games should not have been scheduled in this particular ground.

“It’s too small to play in and our boys could not adjust to the small ground,” he said.

SECURITY CONCERN

Concerns were raised on the behaviour of officials and fans after one was escorted out of the park after passing remarks at the referee assistants.

Reddy has requested for more policemen on the field.

When approached Ali admitted that it was their official as he got out of hand but they would ensure that such action is not repeated.

“The officials were into the game because they are the ones running this team so they felt that they had been treated harshly that’s why emotions broke out.

“We have to accept whatever decisions they make although we feel otherwise they will make the final decisions.”

Tavua take on Lami today while Nasinu face Northland.

In other matches, Taveuni beat Savusavu 3-0 while Seaqaqa pipped Bua 1-0. Nadogo went down 3-1 to Vatukoula
