Police Navua won the 2016 Veivatuloa 7s final beating Savuiqali 17-12 in extra time at Thomson Park yesterday.

The team received $3000 while the Savusavu –based Savuiqali team returned home $1000 richer.

Police Navua got off to a strong start in the opening 10 minutes which saw Lekisio Turagabuli scoring their first try to lead 5-0 at halftime.

The visitors regrouped well in the second half and scored two tries through Epeli Koroi and Lino Hills with Maritino Tuqio successful with one conversion.

But Police Navua scored their second try in the final minute through Simione Mekemeke which was converted by Etuate Nete.

The game went into extra time with Petero Kelevanua sealing the win.

Winning coach Ilimo Vudiniabola said finishing as runners us during the Serua 7s tournament motivated his players to step up.

“We were beaten by Uluinakau 19-12 during the Serua 7s and we told ourselves that we are going to win this one,” he said.

Meanwhile, Savuiqali assistant manager  Iosefo Dramea was satisfied with his team’s performance.

“We have been training in Viti Levu for one month and we are satisfied.”
