Ten years of struggle has finally paid off for  Kaveni Talemaivavalagi who is one of the Fijian referees selected to officiate in the upcoming  2016/2017 World Rugby Sevens Series.

Bulia, Ono, Kadavu native Talemaivavalagi and Tevita Rokovereni have been named in a new-look panel of whistle-blowers to control the men’s circuit which kicks off in Dubai on December 2-3.

The 27- year old teacher started refereeing while still in Year 12 at Laucala Bay High School.

“I want to thank the Lord for his blessings, at the moment I’m excited,” Talemaivavalagi said.

“I’ve been training hard since 2006 and now my 10 years of sweat and tears have finally paid off.

“I have faced a lot of challenges along the way, lots of ups and downs but I believe in Jeremiah 29:11; For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

“This is God’s plan and in that 10 years I know this is God’s time for me.”

Talemaivavalagi got his first series debut in the 2012/2013 series.

“I went in as a assistant referee but for this season I will be a referee which is a huge achievement for me.

“I want to thank the World Rugby for having faith in me and Fiji Rugby Union for nominating me.

“My family, wife and parents are always supporting me and John Wesley College principal Josateki Malani for always granting me leave and the Ministry of Education.”

Talemaivavalagi will make his debut at the Wellington 7s on January 28-29 and Sydney 7s on February 4-5.

He will leave for Sri Lanka next week to officiate at the Asian 7s.
