Be Dedicated: Krishna Chetty

Former Suva and national rep Krishna Chetty believes players who are not dedicated should not play for Fiji.

Chetty, 69, who now resides in Perth, Australia, is in the country for the 2016 Courts Inter-District Championship.

A keen photographer, he has been taking pictures in the IDC for the past four years and still has Fiji close to his heart.

“In our time dedication is important, I train six days a week and every afternoon after work and every Sunday we train 10am-1pm.

“Now we hear players were dropped from the national team because of drinking, you can’t do that.

“If you are not dedicated you shouldn’t be playing.

“Soccer in Fiji has a long way to go.”

Chetty played with renowned Suva players like John ‘Chotka’ Krishna Snr, Pio Cavuilati, KP Singh, Victor Koya and Mun Lal.

In the national side he played with former Ba players like Esala and Osea Masi, Josateki Kurivitu and Farouk Janeman.

Chetty also stressed out how the transfer window has affected the performances of a club/district.

“My personal view is teams should have players for three to four years instead of changing every season.

The clubs, districts should ensure that players should stick with them for a few years.

“This will help a club or a district to build  strong combination, players will understand each other. I played for Suva for 10 years.

“When you change frequently it doesn’t help in the long run, you need to stay with the club/district to learn.”

He added players nowadays lack individual skills.

“Players look for support now as soon as they get the ball. Player like Kurivitu dazzle the crowd with his individual brilliance.”

Chetty’s father, Subarmani Chetty captained the national football team from 1936 to 1953.
