Ba and Labasa team through to Finals

Propeller Shaft Services Labasa and  defending champions Ba are in for a spectacular showdown in the Courts Inter District Championship final at 4pm today at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The Babasiga Lions tamed Jack’s Nadi in the first semifinal 1-0 while Ba defeated Lautoka 2-1 in extra time.

This is a repeat of the 2011 final at the same venue where Labasa won.

However, the roaring Lions will face their biggest challenge when they meet the high flying Ba this time around.

Ba played like a well-oiled machine to beat Lautoka.

And Fiji Football acting president Tarunesh Reddy said the final showdown should be a thriller.

“Both sides will offer plenty and should be a great final.”

Reddy said they would release the 30-member national squad to prepare for the 2018 FIFA World Cup playoff next year after the final.

Labasa last won the IDC in 2011 and had won it three times while Ba had recorded most number of wins  in the IDC and are gunning to win for the 31st time.

Alvin Puts Champs In Final

Alvin Singh struck the winning goal in extra time as defending champions Ba beat Singh’s Rental Lautoka last night.

After 1-1 draw at fulltime, Singh broke the hearts of Lautoka fans in the second spell of extra time when he headed the ball into the net.

What happened: Both sides displayed entertaining football. Samuela Nabenia’s sizzler in the 11th minute put Ba in the lead 1-0.

The ‘Men in Black’ controlled play after the goal.

The Blues with their attackers Jone Vonu, Valerio Nawatu and Peni Finau kept on applying pressure to find the equaliser. It was late in the second half when national rep Kolinio Sivoki found the net.

Lautoka were the better side after the equalising goal and put Ba under extreme pressure. Nairube had to work hard to save his team from defeat.

Half time: Ba 1 Lautoka 0

Star Turn: Singh was the star player for Ba in the semifinal win.

Big Play: Defender Sivoki played a big role in Lautoka’s fightback by scoring the equaliser.

Comments: Ba coach Imdad Ali: “We are here to defend our title and we are confident.”
