Nazra Coaching Vashist Muni

Nazra Hussein is the woman behind the Vashist Muni College Under-19 team participating at the 2016 Courts IDC secondary schools competition.
Coming from a football background, the 38-year-old enjoyed the experience as coach for the Under-15, U17 and U19 teams.
“Soccer is a sport I grew up with because my brothers and uncles played soccer,” Hussein said.
“I’ve enjoyed coaching the team at high school level and I really didn’t have a choice because our Physical Education Music Arts and Culture (PEMAC) teachers had moved on so there was no one to coach the team.
“That’s when I was asked because of my background and to be honest, I’ve no regret.
“Of course there will be some challenges as a female coach in a male dominated sport where officials don’t take you seriously. But I have learnt to not let that affect me and continue doing what I love.
“Teaching them the right technique and way to play at this stage will guarantee they become good players and role models in the future.
“So I am happy to be part of this build up process and I hope to continue my coaching if given the opportunity to do so.”
Her husband, Nazir Hussein is the coach for the Navua senior division team.
Nazir is happy to have his wife at a tournament not as a spectator but as a coach.
“She has worked really hard to be where she is today. I am happy to share something I love with my wife,” Nazir said.
“So I encourage women to not only play soccer but to go out there and take up coaching.”
