Last night striker Jone Naraba gave Nasinu their first Courts Inter District Championship Senior Division victory in six years.

This was after they beat defending champions, Navua 2-1 in extra time during the senior division final at the ANZ Stadium, Suva. A happy Nasinu captain Savinesh Mudaliar told SUNsports that it was very tough encounter.

“I’m happy with the win,” he said.

“This is the first time that we have won the senior grade IDC since our relegation.

“The win also shows that Nasinu is the true champions in the senior division.”

What Happened: The final was a spectacular affair as both sides displayed attacking football. Nasinu drew first blood in the 10th minute through, a Anish Kumar free-kick as they led 1-0 at halftime. Navua with veteran defender Seveci Rokotakala and Netani Doli urged their players on.

Their persistence paid off when Doli slotted in the equaliser. Nasinu banked on their experienced players in veteran Savinesh Mudaliar, Robert Nair and Naraba as they held on despite being under extreme pressure.

Half time: Nasinu 1-0 Navua.

Star Turn:

Naraba was Nasinu’s saviour. Despite the heavy under footing he was able to rifled in the winning goal.

Big Play: Nasinu’s Kumar who defended well and scored their first goal.

Comments:

Navua coach Nazir Hussein said:

“Our players have done well playing in such conditions, which made it difficult for us to play constructive football.

“We are also not happy with the referee’s decision that resulted in our loss.”

Nasinu collected the first prize money of $7000 for winning the senior division title while Navua received $2500 as runners-up.
