Ba’s Kamil Muslim College Under-19 captain, Akeimi Ralulu, led his team to retain the Courts Inter District Championship’s secondary schools Under-19 title.

And an hour later he donned the Labasa jumper as they took on Ba in the IDC grand final where they won 2-1 last night.

Ralulu told SUNsports that it was not an easy time for him as he had to seek forgiveness from his school mates since he had to play for Labasa.

“It was also an emotional moment in the changing room after the game when I asked for their forgiveness before I played in the main final for Labasa,” the 2016 Best Junior football player said.

“This is the first time for me to play in two major matches. I’m from Labasa but I went to school at Kamil College when I joined the Fijian Under-20 team. I just wanted to do the school proud since this is my final year.”

Ralulu was also named in the Vodafone national football team to prepare for the 2018 World Cup playoff.

NERVOUS MOMENTS

Recalling those nervous moments during the penalty shootouts, Ralulu says, he saw that his team mates were nervous in taking their kicks so he decided on taking the final kick.

The 18-year-old vocational student took the spot kick and slotted in the winning goal.

“I was not really confident of taking that shot, the boys told me to kick the penalty because none of them was confident. I just had to try my best to score and I did.”

Ralulu said the winning penalty was dedicated to all students, teachers and everyone who have supported the KMC team.

FACT

The only other local player to have done this was veteran defender Lorima Dau at the 2001 IDC at the National Stadium, Suva. Dau had earlier led the Bhawani Dayal Arya College team scoop the IDC secondary schools title before he played for Rewa in their IDC win over Ba.
