Southern giants Navua and Nasinu proved too strong for their opponents in the Courts Inter District Championship’s senior division semi-finals in Suva yesterday.

Defending champions Navua trounced Taveuni 3-0 while Nasinu beat Rakiraki 2-0 in the other semi-final.

Navua’s goals came from captain, Vineet Chand, Inoke O’Connor and Sharat Kumar. At half time, Navua led 1-0 but came back strongly and kept on the momentum, which resulted in their two goals.

In the second semi-final, Robert Nair and Nasoni Mereke combined well to score in Nasinu’s comfortable win. Nasinu with their experienced players were the better side and they did not let Rakiraki settled down in the match.

The heavy ground conditions at Bidesi and Burkhurst Parks did not deter the two sides from putting up a brave performance.

Navua coach Nazir Hussein was satisfied with his players’ performance.

“Our players did well and I am grateful to them for playing according to the game plan. Our senior players did a good job as well.”
