Defending champions Fiji was held to a 1-1 draw by a spirited Canadian side in the Masters (Over 35) category during the Digicel FANCA Muslim World Cup at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

The Afzal Khan- captained side, who walloped Australia 3-0 in their opening match on Wednesday, faced a tougher test.

The visitors took the lead through a goal from Shahid Saheeb and Fiji equalised through Mohammed Saiyaz.

On Wednesday night in the main competition Lautoka striker Mohammed Shazil was the toast for the Fijian side.

He scored first goal of the match but it did not long live as USA equalised with only five minutes remaining.

“We had the upper hand but in the end we had to settle for a draw,”team manager Mohiq Rafiq said.

In the main category, defending champions NZ were held 2-2 by Canada.

In the Veterans (Over 40) New Zealand were held scoreless with Canada while Fiji beat Australia 1-0.
