Tavua’s GoldnWater Carnival Spirit Strong

Cyclone Winston effects fail to dampen event enthusiasm
The Vodafone sponsored GoldnWater Carnival started on Wednesday at the newly renovated Garvey Park in Tavua.
The carnival is organised by the Tavua Town Council.
Town Council chief executive officer Binesh Naidu said: “The main objective of the Carnival was to raise funds to carry out beautification projects in town and is also a source of entertainment for the people of Tavua.”
He said effects of Cyclone Winston and recent adverse weather conditions failed to dampen the carnival spirit.
“Tavua is ready to host this year’s carnival and is urging the public to come, enjoy and show their support,” Mr Naidu said.
He thanked Vodafone for sponsoring the event this year and for their continuing support for the carnival in the last 10 years.
Four contestants will be vying for the crown and a chance to represent the township to the Miss Fiji Pageant later in the year.
The contestants are: Miss Tavua Town Council Shital Violet Singh, Miss Vatukoula Gold Mines Ltd Naomi Senivuga Talemaiserua, Miss Goundars Timber and Hardware, Nushrat Naznin Nisha, Miss Tavua Market Vendors Association Adi Merewalesi Waqatabu.
Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar will officiate the crowning tomorrow night.
