West, North face telecom disruption due to cable damage

Telecom Fiji Limited customers in parts of the West and North would be experiencing degraded telecommunication services as a result of damage sustained by its fibre optic cables.

TFL has suffered another major setback due to damage to their fibre optic cables between Yaqara to Rakiraki.

The Fiji Electricity Authority was conducting digging works at Vunitogoloa Village on Tuesday and damaged TFL’s underground optic fibre cables in the process.

These cables provide critical communication links to most parts of the Western and Northern Division.

TFL chief executive, Mothilal De Silva, is urging companies to contact TFL before conducting such exercise as they would be able to assist in identifying areas with their cables.

“Customers in parts of the Western and greater Northern Division have been experiencing degraded telecommunication services as a result of the damages caused,” he said.

TFL Technicians are working to normalise services at the soonest.
