Fiji Red Cross Week Launched

Fiji Red Cross launched its Fiji Red Cross week at their head office in Suva yesterday.
“One week of every year whether there’s a disaster or not, we give an opportunity to our partners who are part of the Red Cross family to give and donate to the organisation,” said Director General of Fiji Red Cross Society, Filipe Nainoca.
Mr Nainoca said funds raised through the Fiji Red Cross week helped to support the organisation’s administrative work.
“A strong nation is one that is supported by the society, you the people,” said Mr Nainoca.
Rio Olympics national rugby 7s gold medallist, Osea Kolinisau, who was the chief guest at the launching, praised the volunteers of the society for their work during disasters.
“Heroes are people that help others in times of need,” Mr Kolinisau said.
“If I was in your shoes I wouldn’t be able to do what you do. And I feel you are the true heroes of Fiji.”
He encouraged the organisation to keep doing the good work and said all the volunteers deserved a gold medal for all their sacrifice.
Fiji Red Cross volunteers will be out and about with their cans throughout the week at their 16 branches across Fiji including Rabi and Rotuma.
The general public is encouraged to give generously.
